In 1548, a town named Sakhon Buri was established at the mouth of the Tha Chin River. It was a centre for recruiting troops from various seaside towns. The name of the town was changed into "Mahachai" when Khlong (canal) Mahachai was dug in 1704 to join the Tha Chin River at the town. Later, the town was renamed Samut Sakhon by King Rama IV but it is still popularly called "Mahachai" by the villagers.

Then, towards the end of the Ayutthaya period going on to the Thonburi period, it was separated from Ratchaburi province and was called Mueang Mae Klong.
Samut Songkhram is located 72 Kilometres from Bangkok, occupies an area of 416 square kilometres and is administratively divided into 3 districts: Amphoe Muang, Amphoe Amphawa, and Amphoe Bang Khonthi.
The provincial seal shows a drum swimming on a river. The Thai word for drum is klong, thus refers to the Mae Klong river, as well as the old name of the province, Mae Klong. On both sides of the river coconut trees are displayed as one of the main product of the province. Provincial tree is Casuarina equisetifolia.
Cruise the Mae Klong River : Among the houses are rarely-seen traditional ones called Ruean Panya or hip-roof houses. Furthermore, there are riverside temples, such as Wat Amphawan, Wat Bang Khae Yai, Wat Bang Khae Noi, Wat Phummarin Kudi Thong, etc.

Phitsanulok, however, is not just a stopover for tourists, but is a province with promising tourism opportunities. Phitsanulok City spans the banks of Maenam Nan and has Maenam Kwae Noi running through it. Therefore, it is locally known and historically referred to as Song Kwae City (song means two and kwae means a river). Most of Phitsanulok's terrain is flatlands, with one third of the area being mountain ranges on the north and the east. Its unique natural endowments including natural parks and waterfalls make a trip to Phitsanulok worthwhile.
Apart from its exceptional natural charisma, Phitsanulok provides visitors with an opportunity to explore notable chapters of Thailand's history. For example, remains of an ancient community dating back between 2,000-4,000 years, including old stone axes, was found here. In addition, the old temple of Wat Chula Mani, situated 5 kilometers south of the city, was built even before the Sukhothai Kingdom burst into power.
Phitsanulok prospered along with the powerful Sukhothai (1238-1378) and Ayutthaya (1350 1767) Kingdoms. In particular, it played a strategic role in the Ayutthaya era when it had become the Kingdoms royal capital for 25 years during the reign of King Borom Trailokanat.

Chiang Rai, which was founded in 1262 by King Meng Rai,was the first capital of the Lanna Thai Kingdom (Kingdom of a million rice fields), which was later conquered by Burma. It was not until 1786 that Chiang Rai became a Thai territory and was proclaimed a province during the reign of King Rama VI in 1910.
Today, Chiang Rai is a travelers paradise endowed with abundant natural tourist attractions and antiquities; the province itself is evidence of past civilization. Attractions range from magnificent mountain scenery, ruins of ancient settlements, historic sites, Buddhist shrines and ethnic villages as the province is also home to several hill tribes who maintain fascinating lifestyles. For those interested in the natural side of Chiang Rai, jungle trekking is recommended along various trails.
Chiang Rai which tends to be a little more 'laid back' now competes with Chiang Mai as a tourist attraction and is fast becoming a popular escape for tourists wanting to get away from the troubles they left behind.
Kamphaeng Phet
Geographically located in the Lower North on the bank of the Ping River, Kamphaeng Phet is 358 kilometres from Bangkok. To its East are riverine flatlands while the western areas are made up of high mountains lush with fertile forests where a number of national parks have been established. Areas along the river bank at present-day Mueang district used to host several ancient towns which had played a major role as strategic front-line frontiers since Sukhothai was the kingdom's capital down through the times of Ayutthaya and early Rattanakosin (Bangkok) eras. In fact, the name Kamphaeng Phet actually means as strong as walls or forts make of diamonds.
Kamphaeng Phet covers an area of 8,607 square kilometres. It is divided administratively into 9 districts, namely, Mueang Kampheang Phet, Phran Kratai, Khlong Khlung, Khanu Woralaksauri, Sai Ngam, Lan Krabue, Khlong Lan, Sai Thong Watthana and Pang Sila Thong and 2 sub-districts, Bueng Samakkhi and Kosamphi Nakhon.
Nakhon Pathom
Nakhon Pathom is a small province located just 56 Kms. from Bangkok. The province features an ancient religious structure called “Phra Pathom Chedi”, the first religious landmark that signified the influx of Buddhism into Thailand. Nakhon Pathom is also renowned for its abundant fruits varieties and famous dishes.
Formerly situated by the sea, the city prospered during the Dvaravati civilisation. According to archaeological findings, Nakhon Pathom was the first city to possess influences of Buddhism and Indian civilisations. From the Phra Pathom Chedi and other remains discovered in the city area, it is believed that the city was a centre of civilisation in that era. People of different races settled in Nakhon Pathom. However, a change in the course of the river caused a draught that forced the people to migrate and settle on the banks of river, and these communities developed into towns. The new town was called “Nakhon Chaisi” or “Sirichai”, leaving Nakhon Pathom deserted for hundreds of years until the reign of King Rama IV. While His Majesty was in monk hood, he travelled to Nakhon Pathom and found the Phra Pathom Chedi that he regarded to be the largest pagoda of all.
When King Rama IV ascended to the throne, he commanded that a bell shaped Chedi be built to cover the former Chedi. The surrounding area was also renovated and improved. He also commanded that a water canal be dug to facilitate commuting, which was called Chedi Bucha canal. During the reign of King Rama V, the construction of railways to the south began, at that time Nakhon Pathom was still a heavily forested area. King Rama V also commanded that the town be relocated from Tambon Thana, Amphoe Nakhon Chaisi, to the Phra Pathom Chedi area as it used to be. Nakhon Pathom has been there ever since.
During the reign of King Rama VI, a palace was built at Tambon Sanam Chan as a temporary residence on his travels and many roads were constructed. A large bridge was also built over the Chedi Bucha canal, which His Majesty named “Saphan Charoensattha”. Later, he commanded that the name of Nakhon Chaisi be changed to Nakhon Pathom, but the name of the prefecture was still called “Nakhon Chaisi” until the reign of King Rama VII when the calling of the prefecture was ended. Nakhon Chaisi is now one of the districts in Nakhon Pathom.
Lampang
Famous for its horse-drawn carriages and with a rooster as its provincial emblem, Lampang boasts a long history of human settlements on the Wang River basin, some of which dating back to more than 1,000 years. It is rich in archaeological evidence reflecting ancient civilisations of Hariphunchai, Lanna and Burma.Lampang is administratively divided into the following districts: Muang, Thoen, Mae Phrik, Ngao, Ko Kha, Wang Nuea, Mae Tha, Chae Hom, Sop Prap, Seom Ngam, Hang Chat, Mae Mo and Mueang Pan.

Lamphun
Under its old name of Haripunchai
, Lamphun was the northernmost city of the Mon kingdom of the Dvaravati period, and also the last to fall to the Thai. In the late 12th century it came under siege from the Khmer, but did not fall. However in 1281 King Mengrai of Lannathai finally seized the city, and made it part of his kingdom. After Burmese expansion in the sixteenth century, Lamphun was also under Burmese rule for two centuries. In the eighteenth century, with the rise of Thonburi and Bangkok against Burmese rule, local leaders from Lampang agreed to be their allies. Lamphun was finally free from the Burmese and ruled by relative of Lampang's leader, gaining vassal status from Bangkok. Eventually after the administrative reform of Bangkok government in late nineteenth century, Lamphun became a part, as a province, of Siam or late Kingdom of Thailand.
The provincial seal shows the temple Wat Phra That Haripunchai, which was already the main temple of the city Lamphun during the Mon times. The gold-covered chedi
is said to contain a relic of Buddha.
The provincial flower is the Flame of the Forest
(Butea monosperma), and the provincial tree is the Rain Tree
(Samanea saman).

Lop Buri
Lop Buri (Thai
: ลพบุรี) is one of the central provinces (changwat) of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are (from north clockwise) Phetchabun, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang
Thong, Sing Buri and Nakhon Sawan.
Lop Buri is located on the east side of the Chao Phraya
river valley, between the Lopburi River and Pa Sak Rivers. 30% of the area of the province, including most of Tha Wing district, the southwestern parts of Mueang Lopburi and Ban Mi districts are a very low alluvial plain. The rest 70% is intermixed between plains and hills, with the Phetchabun Mountains form the eastern boundary of the province towards the Khorat Plateau.
Known as
Lavo during most of its history, Lopburi probably dates back to prehistoric times. During the Dvaravati period (6th to 11th century) it was called Lavo. The Khmer and built many impressive temples. Lopburi might have liberated itself from the Khmer rulership at least temporarily, as it sent independent embassies to China twice in 1115 and 1155. In 1289 it sent an embassy again, but then soon became associated with the Thai kingdom Sukhothai and later Ayutthaya.
In Ayutthaya period, King
Ramathibodi I sent Phra Ramesuan (later King Ramesuan) who positioned Uparaja to reign Lopburi. In 1665 King Narai the Great ordered to build the new palace on the east bank of the Lopburi River and made Lop Buri the second capital of the country in middle of the 17th century as Ayutthaya was threatened by the Dutch. After the king reign, the city was nearly empty and less important.
The city was enriched again when King
Mongkut of Rattanakosin renovated the King Narai Palace in 1856. And in 1938 Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram started his plan to relandscape and set Lop Buri as the biggest military base of Thailand.

Where to Find a Great Resort Hotel in Pattaya by Naisarasri Sri
Have you ever wondered what makes Pattaya so popular with tourists? You might not have any idea if you have never been there, but some people who have visited this city quite a few times may be able to give the correct answer. What is the difference between an ordinary hotel and a resort hotel?
In fact in terms of the meaning and usage they are not much different, that is, they both refer to accommodation for tourists. However, a resort hotel may have additional features such as a beautiful garden or open-air spaces where guests can enjoy the natural environment.
The usual type of hotel accommodation tends to be a building in a city area where there is generally nothing other than a small garden or green space available for the guests to enjoy, if at all. A resort hotel is more likely to mean accommodation that is located in the mountains or woods where tourists or travelers can fully enjoy their environment. Because of this travelers tend to prefer to look for a resort hotel rather than an ordinary hotel which is simply a building and nothing else. Especially so if they are not on business trips which would most likely involve a stay in the city center.
Pattaya is a small and lovely city in the eastern region of Thailand. It is a small city that is popular with tourists because of its beautiful beaches and nightlife. There are also ordinary hotels and resort hotels available in this city. However, as most of the area of the city is urban area, it is quite rare to see large resort hotels in the city center. However, if you are planning to visit this city, there are some beautiful resort hotels that you could stay in, but you may have to hurry because they normally have full booking in the high season.
Even though it is quite hard for you to find large resort hotels in Pattaya, there are nevertheless some other hotels that have improved their surroundings and transformed their facilities into a resort. One of the good examples is the hotel called Cabbages and Condoms Resort which I visited last year. I booked this hotel through a hotel booking website for quite a reasonable price and the hotel's service is really impressive.
Booking a hotel in Pattaya is really very easy. It is quite surprising that I can see many of the travel agents in my country offering a hotel booking service for this city. Even though it is just a small city in a small country, the tourism market is very competitive. Therefore, many of the hotel booking website owners try to make a deal with local agents or directly with the hotels or resorts to offer competitive prices to the customers.
In summary, if you are planning to visit Thailand and Pattaya, it is very important to get the right information about hotel accommodation. If you are planning a business trip, it might not be so complicated because there are a lot of ordinary hotels in the city.

Have You Seen The Best Of Bangkok? by Paul McIndoe

As the capital of Thailand, Bangkok is filled with plenty of things to see and do. It is located in southern Thailand, and as such it benefits from warm temperatures that do not vary too much at any time of the year. That means it pays to make sure you have plenty of water with you as you explore; although, it is a good excuse to keep stopping to admire the view! So which locations can you see in Bangkok? Well, the Grand Palace is a good start, and while not all of it is open for you to wander into, even the exterior is worth seeing. You can see the Coin Pavilion though, which gives you an insight into all kinds of coins used in the past. Every city has a wealth of museums to shed more light on the place, but the one you should definitely make time for in Bangkok is the National Museum. This gives you a look at what makes Bangkok and indeed, Thailand into the places they truly are - it is well worth spending a few hours there. The Temple of Dawn is probably a familiar name to most people, but few could place its location as being in Bangkok. This is actually more of a tower in appearance than a temple, but this is one of those must see sights that you should always have on your list of things to do. Ironically you don't actually have to visit it to get the best from it. Most people agree that the best views come when you look over at it from the other side of the Chao Phraya River. You can only really get an appreciation of the awesome sight of this temple by standing back and viewing it from afar. You will soon see that the Buddha is a frequent sight here in Bangkok. The Temple of the Green Buddha is a heavily frequented location when it comes to tourists, but don't expect to take any photos of the Green Buddha itself, as this is strictly forbidden. The Buddha is tiny compared to the grandeur of the temple, so you may have to squint to commit it to memory! What's more, you will find that once you arrive from your flights to Bangkok that wherever you choose to stay in the city, you won't be too far from some of the major sights and tourist attractions. And there is enough to see and do to ensure that you will be satisfied no matter how long you stay.

Koh Samui, Thailand as a holiday spot has become very popular owing to its scenic beauty, beaches, temples and cheap tourist destinations. There are many islands in Thailand, but out of them Koh Samui is the most hip and happening one.
Initially coconut and fish hunting formed the major sources of livelihood of Koh Samui. But today tourism fetches the government of Thailand a big amount of revenue. Due to this Thai government has been making more and more efforts to popularize Thailand and Koh Samui as enjoyable holiday destinations. One can opt for Luxury Holiday villas in Koh Samui to cherish for lifetime with full of splendid memories spent. The villas are also available on rent. They are equipped with all the facilities one can expect from a world class villa. Facilities like 24 hour maid and kitchen with all amenities are available in most of the luxurious villas. The experience of living at a villa will be like living in a home away from home. You will neither feel nostalgic nor homesick at any on of the villas because of the warm owners who would be very hospitable to you.
However, if you intend to keep a pet at a villa, you can do that as well. But for that you would have to pay a little extra. You can choose from a wide rang of pets like dogs, squirrels, parrots etc. Although, if you have always had these pets and thought if you could have a different pet, then for that Persian Cat is the pat answer. Theses cats are cute and fluffy and will give you all the love you need on a holiday.
